Consultant Case Review
2-6 Southampton Row is a Grade II* former Baptist Church which had been redundant, empty and on the Buildings at Risk register for many years. Hannah worked extensively on proposals for the extension, refurbishment and conversion of this building to a new luxury hotel in Holborn. Negotiations between Historic England, the local planning authority, architects and consultants was positive and proactive with good working relationships fostered and creative problem solving helping to overcome several difficult conservation and design challenges. For example, detailed discussions regarding the integration of servicing and new bathrooms for the hotel resulted in sensitive bathroom ‘pod’ insertions which preserved the building’s ornate cornicing. The resulting scheme is ambitious yet sympathetic and will ensure the beneficial reuse of this fine historic building.
